FASTag Annual Pass: price, roads it covers and how trips are counted

One payment a year instead of a toll every crossing. Before you buy, check that your car qualifies and that your regular route actually runs through NHAI plazas.

Quick answer

The FASTag Annual Pass costs ₹3,075 from 1 April 2026 (₹3,000 before). It's valid for 200 trips or one year, whichever comes first, only at national highway and national expressway fee plazas, and only for private (non-commercial) cars, jeeps and vans with a working FASTag. Buy it in the Rajmargyatra app or on the NHAI website; it activates on your existing FASTag, normally within 2 hours.

The fee can be revised every year from 1 April (NH Fee Rules, rule 9(3C)).

Does your vehicle qualify?

  • Private car, jeep or van only. NHAI checks the vehicle against the VAHAN database. Using the pass in a commercial vehicle leads to immediate deactivation without notice.
  • The tag must carry your registration number. Tags registered only on a chassis number aren't eligible until the vehicle number is updated with your bank.
  • The tag must be fixed on the windshield, linked to a valid vehicle number and not blacklisted. If you're unsure, run a FASTag status check first.
  • You don't need a new FASTag. The pass is added to the tag you already have.

Where it works, and where it doesn't

At launch on 15 August 2025 the pass worked at about 1,150 NHAI fee plazas on national highways and national expressways. On expressways and state highways run by state governments or local bodies, and in parking lots, your FASTag works as a normal tag and the toll is deducted as usual.

How a trip is counted

Type of plazaWhat counts as one trip
Point-based plaza (most NH plazas)Each crossing is one trip, so going and coming back is two trips
Closed tolling (entry and exit points, like some expressways)One entry plus its exit is one trip

If you also hold a local pass or monthly pass at a plaza, crossings at that plaza aren't counted against your Annual Pass.

How to buy and activate it

  1. Open Rajmargyatra or the NHAI website These are the only two official places to buy the pass.
  2. Enter your vehicle number The system checks that the vehicle is a private car, jeep or van and that your FASTag is active.
  3. Pay ₹3,075 Pay by UPI, card or net banking. You can't pay from your FASTag wallet balance.
  4. Wait for the SMS The pass activates on your existing FASTag, normally within 2 hours of payment.

You can also buy it for someone else's car: in Rajmargyatra use Add Pass, enter their vehicle number and verify with the OTP sent to their number.

When it runs out

After 200 trips or one year, your tag automatically goes back to being a normal FASTag and tolls are deducted from your balance again. To continue, buy the pass again. Keep some balance on the tag anyway: plazas outside the scheme still deduct the normal toll.
